Canada's women's soccer side is into the Olympic semifinals after a 0-0 quarterfinal draw against Brazil was followed by a dramatic penalty shootout, won 4-3 by the North Americans.

A tense stalemate over regulation and extra time concluded with Canadian goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe taking a hard knock from an accidental collision with a Brazilian forward, casting doubt over her condition for penalty kicks when overtime concluded without a winner.

However, Labbe was able to make two consecutive saves which turned the shootout around and clinched the victory, after Christine Sinclair had missed a spot kick early on.
