Thomas Frank's short reign as Tottenham boss has come to an end, with the club announcing the sacking of the Danish coach on Wednesday morning following the club's 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle.

It brings to an end a dismal spell in charge following Frank's appointment last summer, which leaves the club in 16th place in the table, just five points off the drop zone.

There had been huge optimism over the 52-year-old's appointment after what he achieved at Brentford, but with the worst home record outside the bottom three and a style of football that frustrated the fans, Frank's time in North London has come to an end after less than a season in charge.

Where do Spurs turn next, in their never-ending search for the right manager for the club? DAZN News looks at five possible names who could be next in line for the vacancy...

Mauricio Pochettino

Things have been going wrong for Spurs managers ever since the club decided to get rid of the much-loved Pochettino, at a time when the Argentine had taken the club to near title-winning heights and a Champions League final.

However, that departure was nearly seven years ago, so would a return for Poch really be the right fit now? And could it ruin the legacy he created at the club previously?

Since he left North London, the 53-year-old was a Ligue 1 winner with PSG before he returned to the Premier League with Chelsea and won over a fan base not best pleased with his Tottenham connections, guiding the Blues back to the Champions League.

Currently, he's the boss of a USA national team that are preparing for the World Cup on home soil this summer.

Therefore, any romantic return to North London would have to wait until after the tournament, which wouldn't give Pochettino much time heading into next season.

Roberto de Zerbi

A name linked with Spurs in the past after his impressive Premier League spell in Brighton and Hove Albion, and is fresh on the market, having literally just left Marseille this week.

Things didn't end too well for the Italian in Ligue 1, where, after leading the club back to the Champions League, he and the club plateaued this season, despite having a squad that looked ready to compete with PSG for the French title.

His fate was sealed after a 5-0 thrashing from the current champions, but is still a name that has Premier League stock in him and has already been a name thrown out for the Manchester United post.

De Zerbi's all-action, high-tempo style would be much in line with what they want to see at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium; however, there could be some question marks on the fiery temperament of the 46-year-old.

Xabi Alonso

Another name that wouldn't cost Spurs a thing, with Alonso a free man following his dismissal from Real Madrid.

Things didn't quite work out for the Spaniard at the Bernabeu, where his heavy tactical style didn't blend well with the squad and names at his disposal, who had become used to Carlo Ancelotti's unique approach.

That hasn't seemed to hurt the former midfielder's reputation too much, who can boast of his undefeated, double-winning season with Bayer Leverkusen as evidence of what he can do as a manager given the right tools.

Whether he has those tools at Spurs is another question, where expectations would be slightly higher, too. There's also a feeling that Alonso may wait to see how things pan out at Anfield, where he would be welcomed back with open arms as a former favourite at Liverpool, if things go sour for Arne Slot.

Oliver Glasner

A move that could suit all parties, if everyone feels like it's an amicable situation for Glasner to move across the capital and take charge at Spurs.

The Austrian has already announced he won't be renewing his contract at Selhurst Park this summer, but despite hitting out of the board was expected to see out a season that's fallen apart for Palace.

Given the fragility that now surrounds the club, parting ways with Glasnar now, would allow the South Londoners an early reboot and rebuild ahead of next season and allow the 51-year-old a next move he is looking for.

Spurs would be getting a manager who's shown his credentials with Palace's FA Cup win last season, but would need to be wary of his temperament as he's also proved he's not shy to air any grievances.

Robbie Keane

Could Spurs go down the Michael Carrick route (possibly literally in the summer) and bring back a club hero to appease the fans and hope he can hit the ground running?

If so, then a move for Robbie Keane could be an ideal one for the club. The Irishman had two spells in North London, netting 91 goals, each coming with his memorable cartwheeling celebration.

He's also made a successful start to his managerial career, having won the league title in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and repeated the trick in Hungary with Ferencváros, where he's also impressed in Europe, guiding the side to the Europa League knockouts.

The only issue could be that Keane is unproven in an elite league, and would a job as big as Tottenham - and everything that comes with it - be the right move at this point in his coaching career.
