Bayern Munich will look to add yet another glittering trophy to its legacy this summer as they compete in the newly revamped FIFA Club World Cup

Hosted by the USA, the competition has been expanded to include 32 teams from around the globe in a format akin to a major summer tournament.

Bayern will be among the favourites to lift the trophy, and speaking to  DAZN ahead of the festivities, Thomas Muller - a man who's set to finish his illustrious Munich career at the tournament  - shared his excitement to play in the FIFA Club World Cup.

He said: "Firstly, the fact that it is a World Cup is appealing – and in this format, it feels a bit more like a World Cup. In comparison, we had the previous version of the (FIFA) Club World Cup, which was just a handful of teams.

"I’m not sure what percentage of European [UEFA] Champions League winners went on to win this tournament, but I think it was quite high as the quality of the other teams is not as high as what you see in Europe. And it feels new.

"We need to get a feel for the tournament first. But the fact that it will be taking place in the country where the (FIFA) World Cup will be taking place the following year is obviously very exciting for us."

Over his near-750 games for the club, Muller has won twelve Bundesliga titles as well as the Champions League twice, and with the prospect of winning one final trophy, the German legend admits he still has the burning passion to win and prove himself over and over again.

Adding: "The passion for the game and for winning, that competitiveness. That’s always been the foundation and you can’t really learn that – you either have it or you don’t.

"For me, it’s about proving myself time and time again, competing both within the team – which isn’t that easy with the guys we have here – and externally as a club.

"It’s about taking on the burden again and again, both physically and in competition – and winning.

"That’s the exciting thing. It’s not about the trophy. The trophy is just the piece of metal you receive when you’ve won the competition, but that’s not what makes you happy. It’s the journey to get there that stimulates me."
