'A game of two halves' - Dominic Solanke explains how Tottenham fought back in Man City draw

Tottenham Hotspur continued to be a thorn in Manchester City's side as they overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with the Sky Blues on Sunday.

The visiting Man City were rampant in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the halftime break and looking well on their way to exorcising their demons against a Spurs side who had won three of the previous four meetings between these clubs.

However, fortunes were reversed in the second half as Spurs clawed back into the match thanks to a pair of goals from Dominic Solanke, who scored in the 53rd and 70th minutes to give Tottenham yet another result against Man City.

“It was a game of two halves," Solanke told Sky Sports. "The first half was difficult, we could not get near them at times. The second half was a different story.

"In the second half we were great and grew with confidence and belief and could have gone on to win it. We know we need to start games quicker."

As for what exactly changed in between the two 45-minute periods, the 28-year-old explained that his side changed their approach and took the game to their visitors despite the deficit.

“A few tactical tweaks," Solanke explained. "At half time we had a chance to do that. In the second half we had to show fight and belief and I thought we did.

“We needed to change something because it was very difficult to press. We made that change and it worked very well. We know we haven’t been as good as we want to be in the league and we need the fans behind us. When we are all together I think we can fly."

Tottenham's fight-back actually helps their arch-rivals Arsenal in the Premier League title races, as the Gunners were able to increase their lead over primary challengers Man City to six points thanks to Sunday's draw.

Regardless, Solanke said Spurs will use the momentum gained on Sunday to try to pull themselves out of their current 14th-place position in the standings.

"We are trying to build on it," he said. "That is four games unbeaten now [across all competitions] and we want to start winning games for sure. We need to focus on that and keep building.

"When everyone is on it and we have the crowd and everyone has that confidence and belief, we know we can beat anyone."
