Two of the Premier League's biggest clubs collide on Saturday as Tottenham Hotspur host Liverpool in a clash of underperforming sides.
Spurs are still struggling with inconsistency as they aim to rebuild under Thomas Frank, who led the North London side to a promising start to the campaign but has come under fire as the club's fortunes have reversed in recent weeks. Tottenham have won just one league match in their last seven, dropping them to 11th place in the standings ahead of Matchweek 17.
Their most recent outing was an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest that prompted Frank to admit that turning things around at Tottenham "will take some time."
Unfortunately for Frank and Spurs, time is not something they can lean on as their next match kicks off Saturday against a Liverpool side familiar with the woes that have beset them.
The Reds enter the weekend in seventh place, an improvement from a month ago when they sunk as low as 12th, but still well off the scorching pace they set at the beginning of the season when they seemed unbeatable.
Liverpool have experienced a mini-resurgence, going five unbeaten across all competitions. The defending champions' last league defeat came back on Nov. 22 when they also fell 3-0 to Forest, but they have looked more like the high-level side of old lately — a trend they hope to continue this weekend.

"They are an excellent team. They are the champions. They started well. They have great players. Ekitike, Isak, Wirtz, and one of the best midfields in the league last year. It is a very good team, but I know we can compete at a high level and compete very well."

"I think we are getting closer and closer to the team I want us to be, and that has gone with ups and downs, let's be completely clear about that. But for me that makes complete sense because of all the changes we made during the summer, and we made them on purpose because we thought we needed to. If I'm completely honest, maybe I didn't expect it to take as long as it did. But looking back on it, reflecting on it now, I think I've been too positive, because if you go with a new group where not all of them are completely ready to play every single game 90 minutes in this intensity, you have to adapt – sometimes he can play, then he cannot play. So, it takes maybe a bit of time."
Liverpool have been trending in the right direction in recent matches, while Spurs seem to be going the other way. Couple that with Tottenham's poor home form and it could be a long night for the Spurs faithful.
Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
