The 2025-26 UEFA Champions League is officially underway, and the first goal of the competition was scored by a Canadian international.
Promise David, Union Saint-Gilloise's towering striker, stepped up to the penalty spot for the Belgian side after PSV's American forward Ricardo Pepi committed a foul inside his team's 18-yard box.
David coolly slotted the ball to the bottom-left corner of the net, claiming his first Champions League goal and the first ever in the competition for Union SG.
The 24-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, led his side in scoring last season and has continued that form into the young campaign for the Belgian champions. David also has five international caps for Canada, with two goals to his name.
