Arsenal left Molineux Stadium a thoroughly disappointed side after squandering a two-goal lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

The Gunners looked to be cruising towards a relatively easy victory amid challenging weather conditions in Wolverhampton, but the home side battled back thanks to a stunning Hugo Bueno strike just after the hour mark and a defensive disaster between Arsenal goalkeeper Daivd Raya and centre-back Gabriel that led to a Riccardo Calafiori own-goal in stoppage time.

It was a stunning turnaround in fortunes for the visitors, who still lead the Premier League despite dropping 11 points in eight matches since the calendar changed over to 2026. Wednesday's result is another missed opportunity for the Gunners, who are looking over their shoulders at a hard-charging Manchester City side as they try to capture their first league title in 22 years, but dropping points to Wolves — by far the worst team in the league — will amplify any doubts that Arsenal have about their ability to make the next step after three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League.

Three fight nights one weekend

"Disappointed. Not much else to say," Arsenal's Bukayo Saka told the BBC. "There was a big difference in how we played in the first half and the second half. We dropped our standards and we got punished for it."

Calafiore's deflating own-goal was the result of a communication mix-up from Raya and Gabriel, with the Italian left to desperately try to block an oppotunistic Wolves shot from inside the area after his teammates collided while in pursuit of a lobbed ball into the Arsenal goalmouth. He was ultimately unable to keep the ball out of the net, leading to a heated conversation between Raya and Gabriel.

Saka admitted that the mood in the dressing room after the match was "very flat" and he urged his teammates to look inward as they embark on their final 11 games of the season.

"It's time for us to reflect on the last few performances and fix the issues immediately, so we can get back to winning games, go on a run and build momentum because we've lost that a bit right now," Saka told Sky Sports.

"I just think we have to get back to our level. Do the basics right and we've got more than enough quality in this team to win games, especially in the games where we've been dropping points in recently.

"We need to fix that and that's all our focus is right now."
