London giants Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked to RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons this summer, but a former Gunner believes the player will be better off moving to Stamford Bridge over Emirates Stadium.
Simons' name has been connected to a transfer to both of the Premier League clubs ahead of the incoming season, with the 22-year-old reportedly open to a move to England.
A case can be made for the Netherlands international in either London side, but Jermaine Pennant believes Simons may find life easier at Chelsea.
Pennant, who was on the books at Arsenal at the turn of the century, thinks the current Leipzig star could fit in better with Enzo Maresca's men.
“For Xavi Simons to pick between Chelsea and Arsenal is tough,” Pennant told Adventure Gamers. “However, for me, there’s just something about Chelsea at the moment – the way their midfield is ticking and their quality with the ball makes them a really exciting prospect. A lot of people have been questioning the process, but we’re beginning to see the club’s vision come alive now.
“Simons needs to find out what his role would be at each club and decide. It’s a tough one because Arsenal have Martin Odegaard who players in a similar position to Simons, but I think given the way Chelsea are playing, Simons would be a better fit at Stamford Bridge.”
