Hannah Rankin sends prayers to hospitalised opponent Alejandra Ayala

Hannah Rankins has given her support for Alejandra Ayala, who has undergone surgery following their fight on Friday night.

The pair fought in Glasgow as the Scottish fighter successfully defended her WBA and IBO super welterweight titles. A 10th round knockout gave her a win as 4,500 spectators looked on.

Her felled Mexican opponent needed treatment in the ring in the aftermatch and was later admitted to a local hospital.

"Keep Alejandra in your thoughts for a speedy recovery," Rankin wrote on Twitter.

Promotional company Fight Academy wrote that it is in contact with Ayala’s team and family, and would, “update everyone when we can and it is appropriate to do so".

"Hannah was deeply concerned to hear of her brave opponent's condition."
