Brandon Aiyuk blasts 'scared' 49ers in explosive outburst: What happens next?
The rift between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has just reached a whole new level.
The disgruntled wide receiver, who missed the entire 2025 season, cranked up the drama with a bizarre social media post on Sunday.
Here's what Aiyuk said, how it got to this point, and our prediction for how this messy situation unfolds from here.
What Aiyuk said in his post
Captioned "IF YOU SCARED JUST SAY DAT!!", the post was Aiyuk's first public statement since the 49ers placed him on the reserve/left squad list in December.
"We dealing with, ya know, like them kids when they don't get picked for the basketball game at the court, but they the ones that brought the ball,"

"So they like, 'Alright, you all don't want to pick me, I'm taking my ball, I'm going home.' Ass boys. Little-ass boys," he continued.
"Or like when your kid, he got this one toy, but he don't really know how to use it correctly, so somebody else about to pick it up and play with it.
"And they like, 'Oh yeah, this s—t litty.' And they like, wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on, that's my toy. Ass boy. Little-ass boy.
"Man, stop running from the bill. The bill coming. You scared. They scared. Truth is, they scared. They know how I get.
"They gonna say, 'Oh yeah, BA, BA, BA did this, BA did that. BA did, you know that s—t, allegedly. Allegedly. But what they not gonna say is, 'BA suck at football,' cause they know how I get. And they running from that bill that's on the way.
"It's inevitable. It's coming. Stop running. Stop being a female dog. Stop being a little cat. Stop running from the bill."
How the Aiyuk-49ers relationship broke down
Aiyuk tore his ACL in 2024, the same year he'd signed a four-year, $120 million extension after a training camp hold-in and trade request.
The 49ers were open to moving him in the 2025 offseason, and by December, they put him on the reserve/left squad list.
Lynch told reporters it was "safe to say" Aiyuk wouldn't play for San Francisco again, and Aiyuk stopped showing up at the facility.

As if the situation needed any extra drama, Aiyuk is also dealing with an arrest warrant for a misdemeanour traffic violation after he posted a video of himself driving over 100mph near Levi's Stadium.
He later apologised for that situation, posting "My car content won’t come with speeding anymore!"
What happens next for Aiyuk?
The 49ers voided the guaranteed money owed to him in 2026, but the cap situation complicates matters. Cutting him saves $6.3 million against the cap but creates $7.36 million in dead money.
A trade is clearly the 49ers' preferred option, but with the relationship breaking down, any interested teams know they could avoid giving up trade capital by waiting for what may be his release.
In April, Lynch said the team had no plans to release Aiyuk "anytime soon," but the latest development could force his hand.
Talent was never the problem. Aiyuk followed up on his first 1,000-yard campaign in 2022 with a career-high 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2023 before his following year was cut short.
Given his ability, someone will probably take a flyer on him eventually, but Sunday's video is now part of an increasingly unattractive package, and not everyone will want to take that gamble.
