Hurts showed off his dual-threat ability, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while he ran for another 72 yards (a Super Bowl record for a quarterback) and a score as the Eagles claimed their second-ever Super Bowl title.
Hurts was able to call on a dominant performance from his side’s defense, who sacked Patrick Mahomes X times, intercepted him twice and recovered a fumble as the Chiefs’ dreams of winning a third consecutive Vince Lombardi Trophy were dashed.
But with Vic Fangio’s defense playing well across the board, Hurts emerged as the standout individual and was duly named MVP.
His MVP award comes two years after Hurts threw for 300 yards and ran in three scores during his side’s Super Bowl LVII defeat to the Chiefs, as the fifth-year passer was able gain revenge over Andy Reid’s side.
This was the Eagles’ first Super Bowl win since they overcame Tom Brady’s New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII back in February 2018.
