Joe Burrow bullish on Bengals bounce-back: 'We have everything we need'

Joe Burrow didn't exactly sound committed to the Bengals late last year, telling reporters, "You think about a lot of things," when asked if he might play somewhere other than Cincinnati one day.

Six months, free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft later, and Burrow's U-turn has been dramatic.

Per the team website, Burrow sounded confident about the team's offseason and even went so far as to say, "We have everything we need."

Here's what else he had to say about the new arrivals in Cincinnati, the Madrid game, and more.

Burrow on Cincinnati's new additions

Losing Trey Hendrickson in free agency would hurt any team, but the Bengals have executed an offseason plan that they, and Burrow, believe could bear fruit.

Their free agent haul included edge rusher Boye Mafe, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, and a pair of safeties in Bryan Cook and Kyle Dugger.

And then there was the trade for three-time Pro Bowl DT Dexter Lawrence, who adds a disruptive force up front.

"They're going to keep getting great players to come play for the Bengals," Burrow said, perhaps walking a fine line between acknowledging the efforts of the front office while also hinting more needs to be done.

Burrow knows that his role - alongside head coach Zac Taylor - is vital to helping new arrivals settle in quickly and to creating a winning culture off the field so they can produce on it.

"It's my job and Zac's job and the leaders of this team to bring the locker room together and then go execute on the field," he said.

Offensively, Burrow knows he'll have to be on his toes this year, with Hendrickson's departure to Baltimore completing a trifecta of divisional pass rushers desperate to make his life miserable.

He won't be going into that fight alone, with the dynamic duo of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins at wideout, a ground game spearheaded by Chase Brown, and an offensive line featuring veteran left tackle Orlando Brown, who signed a two-year extension in March.

Talented divisional opponents aside, the bigger problem, many believed, would be Cincinnati's porous defense. Burrow doesn't necessarily agree.

"You can feel the vibe and the leadership has changed in the locker room a little bit," he said. "It's exciting for everyone.

"B. Cook, in the limited time he's been here, you can feel his presence early. Dexter, too. A lot of guys on the D-Line now. You have Jonathan Allen.

"Myles [Murphy] is walking around with a little more pep in his step this year. That's exciting to see. I think he grew in confidence from the last five, six games. We need to carry that over, and I'm excited to see that."

At least one former NFL player agrees with Burrow's assertion that the Bengals have improved.

Burrow on the Madrid game

Burrow lobbied to play overseas, and the November 8 trip to the Bernabeu to face the Falcons in Madrid is the reward for that.

"We're a marketable team. You would want us to go overseas and try to grow the game," he said. "We're an exciting team to watch. We've got big names. We're going to be really good this year."

The wish for an overseas game was granted, the roster has been overhauled, and Burrow sounds like a man on a mission.

Now he's got to go out there, avoid injuries so he can stay out there, and deliver.
