Minnesota Vikings J.J. McCarthy reveals the team 'haven't told' him he is the starting quarterback

If the reports that the Minnesota Vikings rejected trade offers for J.J. McCarthy because they intended to make him their starting quarterback in 2025 were true, somebody forgot to tell McCarthy himself.

Appearing on Kay Adams' Up & Adams Show, McCarthy disclosed that the team had not informed him of their plans.

While McCarthy deserves credit for handling what could have been an awkward situation like a professional, the news will reignite rumours that the Vikings may be interested in acquiring veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who visited and left the Pittsburgh Steelers without a deal last week.

Still, Minnesota does not appear to have made a concerted effort to sign any other quarterback in free agency, and it is entirely possible that the reason they did not inform McCarthy of their intentions is to keep him motivated.

Were that the case, Minnesota's plan appears to be working, as McCarthy spoke of his intentions to "earn" the role.

The most significant factor that may determine how the situation unfolds will be McCarthy's recovery from the knee injury which led to his missing his entire rookie season.

Addressing that point, McCarthy left no room for doubt, revealing to Adams that he feels "100 per cent".
