It was clear all was not well between Micah Parsons and Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones following the blockbuster August trade that sent the All-Pro edge rusher from Dallas to the Green Bay Packers, and the latest chapter in the saga took a new direction over the weekend.
The Packers and Cowboys took part in an overtime shootout, with the game ending 40 apiece, and Parsons played his part, registering a timely sack against his former teammate, Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.
But the spotlight wasn’t limited to the action on the field, as Jones and Parsons exchanged comments that fanned the flames of what was already one of the season’s biggest storylines.
It started cordially enough, with Jones admitting that seeing Parsons in a Packers' jersey was tough, before referring to the compensation Dallas received in the trade—two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
But then things got a little ugly. After watching Prescott throw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, and when asked why Parsons didn't receive an extension, Jones' comments became a little more pointed.
As expected, the response from fans and NFL analysts falls on both sides, from those who believe Jones was wrong to let a player of Parsons' talent leave, to those who think the Cowboys got the better end of the deal, and everything in between.
Here's a small sample of how each side feels about what has transpired:
Reconciliation may come in time, but for now, the Jones-Parsons tension is pure entertainment, and it’s giving this already incredible NFL season an added edge.
