Patrick Mahomes injured; Chiefs eliminated from playoff contention (Updated)

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes left late in Sunday's 16-13 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers due to a left knee injury. Head Coach Andy Reid said after the game that Mahomes will undergo an MRI either Sunday or Monday.

Mahomes hurt his knee with about two minutes remaining in the game when he ran out of the pocket and was chased down by Chargers defensive end Da'Shawn Hand before throwing an incompletion. He was on the ground for several minutes before being helped up and limping to the sidelines. The medical staff helped Mahomes walk gingerly to the locker room.

Gardner Minshew replaced Mahomes but couldn't lead a Chiefs comeback. He threw an interception to Derwin James Jr. on a pass intended for Travis Kelce to seal the win for the Chargers and eliminate the Chiefs from playoff contention. 

The Chiefs (6-8) had made the playoffs in ten consecutive seasons.
