An hour after we shared how the Los Angeles Rams could be targeting a big-name cornerback, they went and landed one of the best of all.
Multiple reports say the Los Angeles side is acquiring All-Pro corner Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs in a massive trade that sends four draft picks the other way.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, LA are expected to pursue a long-term extension with McDuffie.
The headline piece on the Chiefs' side of the deal is the No. 29 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Kansas City will also receive a fifth- and sixth-round selection in 2026, plus a third-rounder in 2027.
That’s a sizeable return. Then again, McDuffie isn’t just another name hitting the market.
The former first-round pick is still only 25 and has already built a reputation as one of the league’s most talented corners, and one who can excel on the boundary or in the slot.
He became a central piece of the Chiefs’ defense during their recent championship run, earning All-Pro honours and handling some of the toughest assignments on the field.
With up to four cornerbacks scheduled to become free agents next week, the Rams been searching for a difference-maker in the secondary for a while now.

From Kansas City’s side, it's familiar territory. The Chiefs have shown before that they’re willing to move on from star defensive backs rather than commit to massive contracts - L’Jarius Sneed being the obvious example.
While the Chiefs received what many would view as fair compensation for a player with one year remaining on his contract, quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t seem entirely pleased.
The Rams walk away with a player who upgrades a thinning group, who can hit the ground running, and potentially push them closer to a Super Bowl - all within the window of Matthew Stafford's remaining playing days.
