Ohio State’s Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese put on a clinic at the NFL Combine, showcasing the kind of athleticism that cements their status among the elite of the 2026 Draft class.
Styles' statement performance featured a 43.5-inch vertical, an 11-foot-2 broad jump and a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash - a rare combination that places him in historically thin air for a player of his size.
According to NFL Research, Styles is the only player since 2003 to run a sub-4.5 40, record a 40+ inch vertical and post an 11+ foot broad jump at 230 pounds or more.
Already projected as a first-round pick entering the night, Styles' sensational display may have pushed him firmly into the conversation as a borderline top-10 selection.
Styles' vertical was the best mark since 2021, 1.5 inches higher than Ja'Marr Chase’s and just 2.5 inches shy of a new Combine record.
A versatile defender equally comfortable rushing off the edge or operating off the ball, Reese matched Styles’ official 4.46 in the 40 before outlining his preference at the next level.
“Teams have pretty much been asking me what I wanted to do, you know, just seeing where my mind was at,” Reese told reporters. “I think I’m an outside linebacker. Or an edge, potentially.”
The 20-year-old then reinforced that versatility with impressive speed and fluidity during position drills.
Reese also made it clear he intends to showcase both skill sets, stating, “Right now, the plan is to run the 40, do the linebacker drills and the edge drills.”
Styles, meanwhile, embraced the lofty comparison to Fred Warner from NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein.
“He’s a great player, one of the best linebackers in the NFL, so I don’t mind the comp at all.”
Other winners on the opening night of position drills included highly rated Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey, who ran a blazing 4.5-second 40-yard dash at 251 pounds before posting a 10-foot-9 broad jump.
Bailey's teammate, linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, UCF edge Malachi Lawrence, and two unheralded defensive tackles also delivered impressive displays, elevating their draft stock.
Florida DT Caleb Banks may have ran a slow 40, but he checked in with eye-popping measurables: 6-foot-6 and 327 pounds, with 35-inch arms and nearly 11-inch hands.
