This Sunday’s Super Bowl LIX will throw up a number of fascinating match-ups when the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles lock horns.

The match is a repeat of the big game from two years ago when the Chiefs won a shootout 38-35, but there have been plenty of personnel changes on both sides since then.

One of the most daunting tasks for anyone going into the game goes to Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who has the job of drawing up a gameplan to stop Patrick Mahomes.

Fangio has overseen a significant improvement in the Eagles' defense since he was appointed to his current role 12 months ago, but has a poor record when going up against Mahomes.

Fangio lost all six games against the Mahomes-led Chiefs when he was Denver Broncos head coach, while Kansas City beat Miami twice in 2023, when Fangio was the Dolphins' defensive coordinator.

But despite a flawless 8-0 record against Fangio-led defenses, Mahomes knows how difficult the Eagles coach will make his life on Sunday.

"Every time I've played coach Fangio, there's been different change-ups and different things that he's thrown at us," Mahomes told the media on Wednesday, as per the NFL Network. "I think that's what makes him so great is he's not gonna just do exactly what you saw the last time. I'm sure there will be blitzes during the game, I'm sure there will be times where they play coverage.

“It's gonna be a chess match. But you want to go up against the best and he's one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL. It'll be a great challenge for us as an offense and as a football team."
