Tragedy struck the boxing world as Arturo Gatti Jr., whose father was Canadian boxing legend and former world champion Arturo Sr., was found reportedly dead in his home. He was only 17.
“It's with a heavy heart that I have to say,.... R.I.P. to 17-year-old ARTURO GATTI JR,” Chuck Zito, actor, stuntman and former bodyguard to the older Gatti, wrote in an Instagram post. “My condolences to Arturo Gatti Seniors - Mom, Sisters, Brothers, and his daughter Sophia.”
Gatti Jr. had the dream of becoming a professional boxer just like his father. He started boxing at six years old and was in the amateur ranks. His long-time coach, Moe Latif, was set to join him in Mexico as Gatti was reportedly set to announce that he would be turning professional.
Latif confirmed the news of Gatti's passing on social media on Wednesday: “It is unfortunately not a rumor or a joke. Arturo is gone.”
