Vargas is the WBA's world champion at bantamweight and many are seeing this contest as Rodriguez's first step towards a showdown with Naoya Inoue.
Rodriguez produced a knockout of the year contender against Fernando Daniel Martinez in Riyadh last November, and he will be hoping to send a message to the Japanese star.
