No matter what power punch Bektemir Melikuziev hit Sena Agbeko with Saturday night, the granite-chinned Agbeko stood up to the onslaught.
But when Melikuziev unloaded a right hook to the temple during the seventh round, Agbeko’s body finally failed him. The shot put Agbeko on jelly legs and paved the way for a knockdown and eventual seventh-round TKO win for Melikuziev at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and live on DAZN PPV and Ultimate Tier .
The victory improves Melikuziev’s record to 17-1 with 11 KOs. Though the Uzbekistan fighter worked hard for the stoppage, he did not do himself any favors earlier in the bout by admiring his work a bit too much and settling for single potshots instead of piecing together combinations to capitalize on his momentum.
Had he done the latter and mashed the gas pedal a bit more, Melikuziev could have conceivably put away Agbeko a bit earlier.
Nevertheless, the super middleweight extends his winning streak to 10, while inching closer to a possible title shot in the division in the near future.
