Bruce Carrington lands electric knockout to claim WBC featherweight crown against Carlos Castro

NEW YORK — Now, that’s how you become a world champion in 'The Mecca of Boxing.'

A picture-perfect right hand rocked Carlos Castro’s jaw, before Bruce Carrington unloaded a four-punch combination culminating in a scintillating ninth-round knockout to snatch the vacant WBC featherweight world championship in style at Ring VI at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night, live on DAZN PPV. Carrington, 28, burst into tears of joy having realized his childhood dream to fruition in punctuating fashion.

Carrington hit an early stride during the third round, finding a home with his right uppercuts which Castro ate flush despite their sharp, piercing impact.

Castro stormed back in the fourth round, though, putting ‘Shu Shu’ on wobbly legs for a brief moment courtesy of a heavy overhand right to the temple. Carrington was able to get his legs back and even stand his ground by the round’s end. Pretty soon, Carrington’s ‘Shu Shu Show’ was in full effect as his brand of slick boxing was clicking with clean, crisp output that Castro just could not find any answers for.

Carrington's output reached its climax in the ninth round when he unloaded with that right hand across Castro’s jaw before adding a left to the body seconds later followed by another right to swivel the jaw, a left and right to drop Castro on his back with a thud.

Castro valiantly tried to rise up off the canvas but simply could not, giving Carrington, a Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York native his sweetest victory to date.

Carrington (17-0, 10 KOs) relished in the electric win, calling out the fellow champions at featherweight.
