Tony Bellew is leaning towards a Terence Crawford win on Saturday night despite being impressed by the career and achievements of Canelo Alvarez .
The fight sees Crawford jumping up two weight classes as he looks to become only the third man to inflict defeat on the iconic Mexican after Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
After enjoying success in four weight classes, the most recent being super-welterweight in 2024, Crawford is aiming for his biggest win to date despite holding victories over the likes of Errol Spence, Amir Khan, and Shawn Porter.
Opposing him will be a man who has essentially been the face of boxing for the best part of a decade and who has also registered numerous high-profile wins.
Canelo has been a dominant force at 168lbs and in recent years he has collected all four world titles with impressive showings over the likes of Callum Smith, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Caleb Plant.
Crawford begins the fight a slight underdog, but Bellew, a former world champion at cruiserweight, believes the timing is right for the man from Nebraska.
“This is going to be such a hard fight where both really need to stay switched on, but I’m thinking it has just fell perfectly for Crawford,” said Bellew when speaking exclusively to DAZN News .
“These two know what it takes to perform on the big stage, and both have shown time and time again that they can deliver when it matters most.
“I’m aware that it is Crawford moving up, but i just look at Canelo’s last few performances and there’s definitely a drop in his output and that could hurt him against Crawford.
“I’m expecting Crawford to ride out a few early storms as Canelo will want to make a quick start, but if he gets past that then i see him taking over to win on points.”
