Chris Eubank Jr. says he will retire if he loses to Conor Benn.
The fighters are preparing square off April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in a bout that will also be available live on DAZN PPV, and Eubank stressed that a victory is "deathly important" to him as he would step away from the sport if defeated.
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the pair continued their pre-fight press tour that has so far been highlighted by Eubank slapping his rival across the face with an egg. That incident cost the 35-year-old six figures, and every promotional event since then has featured beefed-up security to keep the fighters separated and proceedings civil.
Such animosity comes from a years-long feud that started with the combatants' fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, who met in two memorable fights in the early 1990s.
With so much pride on the line, Eubank reiterated a previous pledge to retire from boxing if he loses to Benn.
"There is a point in every fighter's life that they will reach when they can't go any further," Eubank explained. "If I can't beat Conor Benn now, then I've reached my ceiling, which is why this fight is so deathly important to me.
"Because I don't want to retire. I don't want to give up. I don't want to sail off into the sunset. I still have things to achieve."
For his part, Benn said that a loss to Eubank would be "painful" but would not spell the end of his career.
"Of course not," Benn said when asked by Morgan if he would hang up the gloves in the event of a defeat. "Not that I plan on losing the fight, not that I think I will lose the fight.
"The reality is you can lose fights. I will lose fights in my career, [just] not to this man."
