Claressa Shields remained the GWOAT on Sunday night, defeating a tough Franchon Crews-Dezurn in an all-action affair by unanimous decision in front of more than 17,000 people inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, the home state of Shields.Â
Options are becoming slim for Shields (18-0, 3 KOs). But there are some out there who could potentially give the two-time Olympic gold medalist.Â
DAZN News breaks down the best options for Claressa Shields.
This feud has been brewing for around three years now. Each has talked about fighting one another. The time seems to be right now, as Shields mentioned in her post-fight interview about the possibility of dropping down to super middleweight and wanting to take the two titles Green possesses.Â
Green (16-1, 11 KOs) currently doesn't have a fight scheduled, and Shields is going to naturally take some time off after just competing. Taking the fight with the hard-hitting Green is a good way to move down weight, grab more hardware before the three-time undisputed champion takes the biggest mainstream fight available.Â
Negotiations have been ongoing for this superfight for awhile, DAZN News has learned. Shields and Mayer confirmed that on Sunday's broadcast. But there was a catch when Shields was speaking to DAZN's Chris Mannix. While Mayer, the unified welterweight and super welterweight champion, has said she'll go up to as far as 160. Shields said that she'd only go as low as 162 or 163 pounds.Â
Despite Shields' remarks towards facing her Olympic teammate, Mayer, who did analyst work for DAZN at the show, still seemed confident the fight would occur at 160.Â
It's the most appealing fight in all of women's boxing and one that should cross the line sooner rather than later.Â
