Being at the top of the mountain can go one of two ways. Some take the route of enjoying it, staying even-keeled, and being the same person. On the other hand, some feel like they walk on water and don't want to be bothered with their time.
The head of Zuffa Boxing, Dana White, said on Thursday that Conor Benn was perhaps the most professional fighter he's dealt with, whether that'd be in the UFC or his short time in boxing. Ahead of tonight's DAZN PPV headliner i n select territories, including the UK and Ireland, Benn has done all the media and is doing everything asked of him to promote this fall blockbuster event.
Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) is now used to headlining mega events. He's been on the marquee for his two massive stadium events with Chris Eubank Jr. and Garcia this evening. It was almost all taken away when it was announced that Benn failed a drug test in 2022. Benn maintained his innocence throughout and got cleared of any wrongdoing two years later. That brief period made Benn relish these opportunities under the brightest lights.
"I think when you've gone through a lot, and this is taken away from you, you learn to enjoy it," Benn told DAZN this week. "You learn to love it. You learn to change your mentality of, 'Oh, I gotta make weight. Oh, I gotta do the media. I gotta do this, or I gotta do that.'"
Having that mindset has made the 29-year-old realize everything can be taken away with the snap of your fingers and to enjoy the moment while it's still here.
"The reality is, how long are we here for? Not here for a long time. Here for a good time," Benn said.
"Once it's done. it's done."
Britain's Conor Benn looks to become a world champion for the first time against US superstar Ryan Garcia on Saturday, September 12.
Watch the fight exclusively in the UK & Ireland and other territories (check for availability) on DAZN PPV or included in our Ultimate Tier subscription.
