World champion Dalton Smith's homecoming against Alberto Puello cancelled due to injury

Dalton Smith will not be defending his WBC super lightweight title on June 6 against Alberto Puello after suffering an injury. 

The fight, which was set to take place in Smith's home city of Sheffield, would have been a night to remember with 'Thunder' fighting for the first time since defying the odds and beating Subriel Matias to become world champion in January. 

Before pursuing the unifications, Smith had to face Puello next with the latter being the mandatory challenger for his WBC world title belt. 

It is currently unknown when or if this fight will be rearranged. 

Sandoval vs. Yafai will be new June 6 main event

The Matchroom fight card, which will be broadcast live on DAZN, will still go ahead with WBC and WBA world flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval taking on Olympic gold medalist Galal Yafai in the headline bout at the Utilita Arena. 

For Yafai, this will be his first fight since his controversial loss to Francisco Rodriguez Jr. in Birmingham last year. 

This contest was later declared a no-contest after Rodriguez Jr. tested positive for the banned substance heptaminol on the day of the fight. 

Sandoval's meeting with Yafai will be the first time he defends his WBC and WBA belts after beating Japan's Kenshiro Teraji last July despite being knocked down in the fifth round.
