Deontay Wilder got his first win in over two years on Friday night when he stopped Tyrrell Anthony Herndon in the seventh round.
Following losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang in 2023 and 2024 respectively, many thought Wilder's boxing career was done.
'The Bronze Bomber' however had other ideas at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas and floored Herndon twice in rounds two and six.
The contest came to a close in the seventh with Herndon stopped on his feet by the former WBC heavyweight champion.
While Wilder's finish will be one which will not be going viral anytime soon, the American took plenty of positives and hailed it as "a new beginning".
"It felt great. Herndon was a tough guy. I appreciate the work," Wilder said after the fight.
"I had a long time to get myself together, mentally, physically, emotionally. It's been a long road for me. I’m just glad to be back in the ring. I know I didn't give everybody what they truly wanted to see, but we are going to get better as we get going.
"This is a new beginning for me. I'll be getting better and better, I promise you that."
Wilder's win will no doubt peak the interest of Anthony Joshua who is set to make a comeback later this year.
With his promoter Eddie Hearn suggesting Joshua could retire in 2026, now is the time to make the long-awaited heavyweight showdown between Joshua and Wilder.
