Chisora handed rematch 'green light' as star walks back retirement

Derek Chisora has revealed he has the "green light" for a rematch with Deontay Wilder, walking back his retirement plans.

'Del Boy' and 'The Bronze Bomber' contested a ramshackle heavyweight contest last month in the latter's reported farewell.

A split-decision victory for Wilder seemingly sent Chisora off into the sunset on the back of defeat at London's The O2 Arena.

Now however, it appears that the Briton may strap on the gloves once again to run it back after his spouse signed off on it.

"I'm working on the rematch," he told Sky Sports News. "The wife has given me the green light so I will be doing the rematch.

"I haven't confirmed it yet. I have a couple [of] meetings [this week to discuss], and we will see how that goes. [Wilder] is keen.

"[That is] because he's upset with the result as well [as me]. He might have won, but he's upset, so we are going to run it back."

Chisora was unequivocal that any rematch would be his last bout though, adding: "That's it. [At the] end of this year, I will retire."

Old warhorse Chisora cannot resist another rumble

Were we fools to truly think it was over? Was the promise of a definitive farewell perhaps always a red herring to be left alone?

News that Derek Chisora is ready and raring to go around with Deontay Wilder again will not come as a surprise to many fans.

The pair served up a messy if entertaining spectacle when they met in London this past April, even if their powers had waned.

The appetite for a rematch is something more ambiguous though, particularly as Wilder continues to be linked to other foes.

Questions too will linger over whether another punishing bout is the right move for Chisora. But the old warhorse is his own man.
