"From time difference to weather, it's really suffocating"- Canelo Alvarez reveals challenges of Riyadh debut
WBA, WBO and WBC middleweight champion, Mexico's Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will face off on Saturday night against IBF super-middleweight champion Cuba's William Scull in a highly anticipated event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, live on DAZN PPV .
Also on the card Congolese giant Martin Bakole looks to make a statement in a quick return to the ring following his knock-out defeat to Joseph Parker in February of this year, where he was a late replacement for Daniel Dubois.
How does Canelo Alvarez feel about debut in Riyadh?
With the event taking place in Riyah, this is not the typical country Alvarez is used to fighting in.
This will be his Saudi Arabian debut and his first ever bout he has fought outside the United States or Mexico.
In the build up to his new adventure, DAZN's 'On the Ground' series went behind the scenes at Canelo's training camp, gaining exclusive insight into the Mexican legend's preparation for this new experience.
DAZNExpressing eagerness to compete here Canelo told DAZN: "I am really excited to be here. It has always been a dream of mine to fight in another country other than the US or Mexico and now I am really close to achieving that and I feel happy to be here, realising my dreams"
On the other hand for Canelo, the climate and way of living in Saudi is very different to what he is used to in that of Mexico or the United States.
He added: "Everything's different here but that's why I came three weeks before the fight, because I knew everything would be different
"From time difference to the weather, which is really suffocating, it's different."
"Those first few days I felt like everything was all over the place, as if everything was draining."
Despite this Canelo feels at home now in Riyadh and believes he has already overcome this adversity.
"You have to adapt to that and yes the first few days you felt that difference until around four days in then I started to feel at home."
"Now I feel pretty good"
