Dillian Whyte angrily confronted an announcer who mistakenly got his nickname wrong ahead of Saturday’s crunch showdown with Moses Itauma.
Fight week got underway on Tuesday with the Grand Arrivals in Riyadh, with the fight itself scheduled to take place on Saturday night, live on DAZN PPV.
This fight has serious implications for the careers of both men, but the build-up has featured a spot of controversy when DAZN’s announcer Thomas Treiber called out Whyte's name during Tuesday's media event.
Instead of calling Whyte by his nickname 'The Bodysnatcher', Treiber erroneously shouted out 'The Babysnatcher'.
Whyte, 37, was left bewildered and he called for the announcer to come and speak to him in a moment captured by Seconds Out.
The pair spoke with the heavyweight questioning how the announcer managed to make such a big mistake – but Treiber apologised and said it was simply an accident.
Whyte said: “Bodysnatcher-Babysnatcher that's crazy bro."
Whyte then acknowledged the apology, but added: “[Maybe] the booty snatcher, but the baby snatcher is wild, bro.”
Fortunately Whyte saw the funny side in the end and was able to accept the apology before shaking hands with the announcer.
Trieber told Whyte: “You know I made a mistake, the word came out wrong.
“I wrote it down and it came out wrong and I apologise. It was just a honest mistake.
“For the rest of the week you will be The Bodysnatcher, my friend. My apologies.”
Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte is live and exclusive on DAZN PPV this Saturday, August 16. Watch the PPV for free by purchasing a DAZN annual subscription (exc. US).
