Eubank Jr. vs Benn 2 - The end of a bitter rivalry or just the latest chapter of a nasty story?

Eubank Jr. vs Benn 2 - only on DAZN PPV - Saturday

It took almost three years for Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn to renew hostilities following their epic first contest in 1990 that was won by the former.

During that period, despite high demand for a sequel, Benn went on a different journey, one that included a move up in weight, a successful voyage to Italy to become world champion, and an all-round improvement that would see him perform better in his rematch with his greatest rival.

For Eubank Sr., he also made the move to super-middleweight, but there was a tragic ending during his rematch with Michael Watson, which caused a life changing injury for the London man on an unforgettable night in 1991.

There was a trip to Portugal to retain his world crown as well as a controversial draw before the second Benn encounter when pushed all the way by Ray Close.

For their sons, Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, there is no opportunity to move elsewhere and gain new experiences in different parts of the world under less pressured circumstances.

The pair delivered a brutal contest this past April and just seven months later they are prepared to do it all again, but will this finally be the end of the gripping, generational, Eubank vs Benn feud?

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2

Turning professional in 2016, five years after Saturday’s opponent, Benn arrived into the sport with minimal amateur experience.

Although he had his father’s surname and a seemingly readymade future showdown with Eubank Jr. to look forward to, Benn still had to prove himself when it mattered most to secure the fame and fortune that has been bestowed upon him in 2025.

Entering the sport with a narrative is always a bonus for fighters aiming for lucrative bouts.

Where James DeGale had George Groves, Dillian Whyte could fall back on Anthony Joshua, Benn had Eubank Jr., and it was apparent early into his apprenticeship that a stadium fight based on the 1990s hostility between their fathers could be worth more to Eubank Jr. and Benn than any world title.

Most toxic dispute in British boxing history

Originally set for 2022, disaster soon followed as the build-up to the fight, literally days before the first bell was to sound, it was revealed that Benn had tested positive for a banned substance.

Enough has been written and so much has been said about what went on in the days that eventually saw the event postponed, but whatever animosity Benn had for Eubank Jr., he now had a much bigger fight on his hands as he vowed to clear his name.

Pleas of innocence from the Benn team were ignored by Eubank Jr. who repeatedly branded the Essex fighter a cheat as he moved on from the ugly episode to engage in a terrific two fight series with Liverpool’s Liam Smith.

Eubank Jr. was sensationally stopped in the first meeting before making several adjustments that saw him level the series in an immediate rematch.

Benn, who had now reached the point of blaming egg consumption for his failure, had resurfaced in America for two low profile wins away from the gaze of his once adoring public.

His biggest victory would come in November 2024 when he was cleared to fight in the U.K. meaning that his eagerly anticipated battle with Eubank Jr., now laced with more nastiness, could finally go ahead.

Despite the criticisms aimed at both men during the lengthy and ferocious promotion, what happened when the action got underway outweighed everything that had come before it.

Drugs, eggs, weight, surname, greed. Whatever was said about Eubank Jr. and Benn in the years before their encounter was rendered meaningless for 36 chaotic minutes as each man left everything in the ring to the point where fight fans all over the world were desperate to see it again.

That rematch takes place this weekend, once again at Tottenham Hotspur, the scene of their first classic, but is this a fight that finally brings closure to one of the most toxic disputes in British boxing history?

The senior versions never got the opportunity to clash for a third time, but could their sons break new ground with a trilogy?

If Conor Benn wins a rematch full of drama, tension, and action from the outset, can these two fighters shake hands, thank each other for the memories, then walk off in different directions?

That is wishful thinking when so much money would be in place for a third fight with scores level at 1-1.

Facing danger, no matter where they turn

Benn has welterweight to consider. World title fights against Mario Barrios and Lewis Crocker or perhaps being the man to welcome Manny Pacquiao to Britain in a guaranteed stadium sellout.

There is a possibility of moving to 154lbs where the top ten currently reads like a murderer's row in a division where Benn could feel right at home pursuing big purses against the likes of Vergil Ortiz, Jaron Ennis, and Errol Spence.

What about Eubank Jr. Will the chore of making 160lbs yet again, a well-documented headache for him, be a thing of the past as he pursues an elusive world title at super-middleweight.

Could Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford be on his radar rather than trying to outfox young contenders such as Hamzah Sheeraz and Diego Pacheco.

Facing danger, no matter where they turn, could Eubank Jr and Benn just take a moment, tell themselves they were made for each other, and move forward with another fight in 2026?

Saturday night will undoubtedly be another significant night in the family rivalry of Eubank vs. Benn. Many see it as the final chapter. Depending on the outcome, it could just be a new beginning.
