Eubank Jr vs Benn 2 - Five things to watch out for

Eubank Jr. vs Benn 2 - only on DAZN PPV - Saturday

Eubank Jr. vs Benn II: Unfinished business is almost upon us with Saturday’s blockbuster rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn having all the makings of a classic fight.

Here, DAZN News picks out five things to watch out for at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as one of boxing's great rivalries is renewed once again.

Ultimate family pride is at stake

Benn has insisted this will be the final chapter of his family’s 35-year feud with the Eubanks.

His dad failed to beat Eubank Sr in their two clashes in the early Nineties, so the pressure is on Conor to restore some pride to the Benn name.

Having beaten Benn seven months ago, 36-year-old Eubank Jr will aim to extend his family’s undefeated record to four fights.

The rivalry adds a huge layer of intrigue to a rivalry that gripped the nation over three decades ago… and is doing so again now.

What might happen if both fighters hit top gear?

Eubank Jr was a clear winner on points in the first fight, with all three judges scoring the contest 116-112 in his favour.

He appeared weight drained, operating at a lower level than usual, but Benn was unable to make that count in his favour.

Benn failed to use his speed and cardio to overwhelm Eubank and will be desperate to make amends this time around.

The 29-year-old, who will again move up to middleweight to fight Eubank, declared: “I’ve worked religiously on tactics in the gym, I'm not going in there swinging this time.”

In the first fight, Eubank landed 367 punches to Benn’s 215. The former also landed more power punches, edging Benn 227-180.

Eubank also had a better landing percentage, with 40% to Benn's 36%, so Eubank will go into Saturday's fight as the clear favourite.

Can underdog Benn deliver when it matters most?

Much was made of Benn’s two failed drug tests in the build-up to their first fight on April 26, when Eubank Jr emerged victorious at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Who could forget when Eubank Jr smashed an egg on his opponent’s face during a head-to-head at an extraordinary media conference in Manchester in February?

A scheduled fight between the pair in October 2022 was called off after Benn failed a voluntary drugs test, prompting a two-year battle with anti-doping authorities, before his suspension was lifted last November.

Benn has since admitted he struggled to control his emotions during their fight earlier this year, but insists he is ready to take the honours this time around.

Benn said, “I took the fight because I believe I can beat the man.

“I’ve not sacrificed what I have to lose – not publicly and especially not to a Eubank.”

Could fathers try to steal the limelight?

Thursday’s pre-fight press conference in Canary Wharf threatened to be overshadowed by the rival fighters' fathers.

Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn reignited their own long-running feud at the final media event for their sons’ rematch.

Eubank Sr made a surprise, last-minute appearance to support his son at his fight with Conor in April, and he was there again on Thursday to cause another major stir.

Eubank Sr. was forced to deny claims that he had been paid £250,000 to attend the fight in April, and he later faced off against Benn alongside their sons.

It was pure theatre as Conor Benn joked: “I just think you two should face-off” to which his dad replied: “I don't mind having a face-off!”

While their sons will take centre stage in the ring on Saturday night, plenty of eyes will also be fixed on their fathers as the rivalry between the two families reaches a new, potentially explosive, level.

Undercard dripping with intrigue

There's no shortage of familiar names on this latest fight card, but the most eye-catching inclusion will be that of Jack Catterall, chasing a first-ever title at a new weight.

Formerly an undisputed contender at light-welterweight, he continues his new career at Welterweight against Ekow Essuman, who previously ended the tenure of Josh Taylor.

Elsewhere, ex-cruiserweight title challenger Richard Riakporhe fights at heavyweight, while Adam Azim aims to catch the eye once again in the super lightweight class.

Sam Gilley, meanwhile, will have his eye on the British and Commonwealth titles at super welterweight, but Ishmael Davis - desperate to arrest a losing slide - will be keen too.
