Tony Bellew struggles with Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson prediction
Tony Bellew is backing Shakur Stevenson to defeat Teofimo Lopez tonight, but he is doing so without much confidence.
In one of the best fights that can be made in boxing, Lopez will defend his super-lightweight crown against the Newark man, and Bellew is excited ahead of the bout.
Lopez will welcome Stevenson to 140lbs , and he will be looking to enhance his legacy that already sees him hold impressive wins over the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko and Josh Taylor.
The one dent on his record came in 2021 against George Kambosos, but Lopez has rebounded well since that shock upset and he is now seen as one of the best fighters in the sport.
In Stevenson, Lopez is fighting a three-weight world champion who has dominated the vast majority of opponents he has faced so far.
The 2016 Olympic silver medallist has enjoyed great success in the professional code, but Lopez is his biggest test to date. Stevenson enters the contest a small favourite, and Bellew, a former cruiserweight world champion, has given his backing to him.
“This is not an easy fight to predict at all as you’re dealing with two fighters who are right at the very top,” said Bellew when speaking exclusively to DAZN News.
“Lopez’s brain is so underrated and his jab when he fought Lomachenko was something else. He went straight at it in that fight, something we don’t always see from him, and that’s what he has to do here.
“Stevenson building a lead would make it hard for Lopez and that’s why I think we will see Teofimo make a quick start so that he is in the fight from the outset.
“I honestly don’t know and that’s credit to both fighters as I think they are both quality. It’ll be very close, maybe even controversial, but I think Stevenson might just nick it on points in a great fight.”
