Fabio Wardley will bid to move into a prime position as a challenger to Oleksandr Usyk when he faces off with Joseph Parker this October live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

The Ipswich-born star will face the former WBO world champion at London's The O2 Arena in a bout that lays a direct path for the winner to a shot at Oleksandr Usyk.

Wardley is just one of several major contenders within boxing's top glamour division who are flying the flag for British fighters, but will he be their next world champion?

DAZN News profiles the leading contenders who are likely to secure a shot at a major belt within the next year - and just what their route to the opportunity might be.

The ex-white-collar fighter has broken through in the past two years to become one of his generation's most formidable homegrown stars - and his time could be soon.

Wardley needed a late intervention to stop Justis Huni when down on the cards, but if he can score an upset over Parker, he may be champion by the end of the year.

That is because both currently hold interim titles with the WBA and WBO respectively. If Usyk does declines the challenge, the winner could be elevated to full status.

Moses Itauma

Arguably the most exciting young British heavyweight talent since Anthony Joshua, it's hard to believe the rising star is only twenty years old still as he climbs the ranks.

A brutal one-round demolition job against Dillian Whyte has kept Itauma on track, and he is likely to fight again before the year is out, with eyes on a bout in Manchester.

Should he see off his next challenger, powerbrokers will continue to bang the drum for a title shot. If Usyk's belts splinter imminently, expect him to go hunting hard for one.

Daniel Dubois

The fallout surrounding the Briton's lacklustre performance in a rematch with Usyk at Wembley Stadium has mostly subsided, with a coaching change from the star's camp.

As a former world champion, Dubois will still believe he can compete at the top end, and will likely point to his win over Joshua last year as a prime example of his power.

Still, his prospects likely depend again on Usyk being stripped of a belt or two - and even then, he is sure to need a tune-up bout of his own before he is considered again.

Anthony Joshua

Could AJ become a three-time world champion despite more than a year out of the ring? For the former London 2012 hero, it isn't the most far-fetched idea in the pipeline.

The star is finally back in training, and while a prospective bout with Jake Paul has fallen through, it is not out of the question that the star could take a trilogy with Usyk.

The Ukrainian namechecked his former rival after his win over Dubois, and the two appear to have struck up a mutual respect in recent years. Fewer fights would be bigger...

...except for this one. 'The Gypsy King' remains retired since his second career loss, with both defeats against Usyk - but that hasn't stopped him teasing a third encounter.

If Fury indeed is set to don his gloves one more time, it would surely only be for a trilogy bout or to take on Joshua in a longed-for all-British bout several years in the making.

Usyk would likely enjoy the challenge - especially given suggestions he will fight only once more himself - and the pair could serve up a classic finale to their rivalry too.
