WBA interim heavyweight titleholder Fabio Wardley is confident that he is the next man to challenge undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk has been radio silent since knocking out Daniel Dubois in July, meanwhile the heavyweights below him in the pecking order are vying for a lucrative date with the Ukrainian.
On Saturday night, exclusively live on DAZN PPV, Wardley will be facing WBO interim and former world champion Joseph Parker in a contest which opens the door to a meeting with Usyk.
Speaking to Queensberry's Dev Sahni, Wardley is ready to have his full circle moment with a win over Parker and then a date with the heavyweight division's top operator.
"Yeah, I think I’m the next one," Wardley responded when asked whether he is the next person to face Usyk.
"When it all happens, it will be a wild ride and weird full circle moment, but I think I am next up.
"I have been chasing this for 20-odd fights now and I’ve got one to go, then I’m there so there’s no stopping now."
Wardley's knockout power will play a crucial role if he is to beat Parker, but the New Zealander has nullified a number of hard-hitting foes.
Parker's last three wins over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole, are all heavyweights who often produce explosive knockouts, and Wardley will pose a similar threat.
Looking ahead to the opening bell at the O2 Arena, Wardley had a warning for Parker.
"I think it’s known that if I catch you, not necessarily clean, but if I catch you half clean, you are going to feel it.
"It’s credit to Joe, when he goes down, he does get back up, but I believe I’m younger, fresher, I’ve got the power, the speed to put him down if I need to, once, twice, three, four times.
"It doesn’t matter, I will stand in front of you and keep going."
Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley fight this Saturday, October 25, to become the WBO mandatory challenger to Oleksandr Usyk. Watch the fight and undercard live and exclusive on DAZN PPV.
