What are the super-fights boxing needs right now?

We are approaching the halfway point of the year and one super fight has been signed in Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua with a date and venue to be announced.

That said, the sport has plenty of mega bouts to conjure for hopefully the second half of the year or early 2027 at the latest. Here, DAZN News presents a handful of wondrous clashes that would bring the sport to a standstill.

Naoya ‘The Monster’ Inoue vs. Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez

Before and after moving up in weight to stop Antonio Vargas last weekend, Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez fielded questions about opposing undisputed super bantamweight king and pound-for-pound master Naoya ‘The Monster’ Inoue.

The newly-crowned WBA bantamweight world champion sounded all for the mouthwatering challenge.

He could opt to chase down more titles at 118 pounds if the bout doesn’t come to fruition, but there is no better fight to make than ‘Bam’ and ‘The Monster’ as the collision would pair two elite P4P fighters with super footwork, angles and explosive punching power against each other on a monumental world stage. This is the fight and the sooner we could see it, the better boxing will be.

Devin Haney vs. Shakur Stevenson

During the past few weeks, Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson have traded jabs on social media over contention about a possible catchweight if they are to fight.

Haney is the WBO welterweight champion and Shakur Stevenson is the WBO super lightweight titleholder, meaning 144 should be the weight.

But it hasn’t quite worked out like that in the formation of a fight signing just yet. With the absence of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on the scene, a possible Haney vs. Stevenson bout would declare the best 140-pound-plus sweet scientist of this generation.

We sincerely hope these stars iron out the details to make this matchup a reality. That way, we can find out if 'The Dream' can solve Stevenson's mastery of hit and don't get hit.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. David Benavidez

Listen, Oleksandr Usyk putting his unified heavyweight crown against undefeated German mandatory challenger Agit Kabayel is an excellent fight. But a super fight would have undefeated David Benavidez moving up from cruiserweight to heavyweight to vie for an unbeaten Usyk’s throne.

‘The Monster’ destroying Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez in May to become a unified cruiserweight world champion should have piqued boxing fans’ interest and curiosity over his heavyweight prospects. The fact that Benavidez has openly talked about fighting Usyk only increases the groundswell.

Putting Benavidez’ relentless punching against Usyk’s sweet science brilliance would be nothing short of spectacular. Terence Crawford moved up in weight to successfully challenge Canelo Alvarez last fall. Who’s to say Benavidez cannot do the same with Usyk?

Daniel Dubois vs. Moses Itauma

Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma are both promoted by Frank Warren, making this potential bout a seemingly easy one to facilitate.

If Oleksandr Usyk is going to be tied up with Agit Kabayel, the undefeated 21-year-old phenom Itauma looking toward WBO heavyweight world champion Dubois only makes sense.

Can Itauma’s otherworldly boxing skills walk through the heavy-handed punching power of ‘Dynamite?’

This bout would answer that question and more.

Dmitry Bivol vs. David Benavidez

Given the business of boxing, perhaps a possible super clash between Oleksandr Usyk and David Benavidez would take some time to forge.

In that case, how about Benavidez and Dmitry Bivol seeing whose sweet science skills reign supreme? Bivol is the unified light heavyweight ruler with three of the four titles in his grasp. Benavidez holds the other strap in the WBC championship.

It would only be right for the former sparring partners to throw hands to decide the undisputed crown at 175 pounds.

If we can’t get Usyk vs. Benavidez any time soon, placing the latter’s persistent punching against Bivol’s pristine jab is a damn good consolation.
