Former world champion still fighting at 60 names his best ever opponent

Itauma vs Whyte - August 16 - only on DAZN PPV

Oliver McCall is curently remaining active long after his prime, which saw him reign as world champion in the mid 1990s

At the peak of his powers, McCall demonstrated his qualities well when he destroyed Lennox Lewis in two rounds in a huge shock to become WBC ruler in 1994.

As well as Lewis, McCall would also share the ring with high-profile names like Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes.

Despite making his debut in 1985, when Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua were still not born, McCall is still fighting in this era.

DAZN - Home of Boxing

Last year, after five years of inactivity, McCall returned to action when he recorded a second-round stoppage over Stacy Frazier in Nashville

With two fights already in 2025, McCall saw his recent momentum halted slightly as he was held to a draw in June by Carlos Reyes.

With almost 80 fights on his ledger, who does McCall consider to be the best opponent he ever faced?

“Larry Holmes. It has to be Larry Holmes. As well as boxing skills, he could do the other things. He had an awesome jab. He learned how to box well. He learned not to make the same mistake twice,” said McCall when speaking to The Ring

“He learned when he got knocked down how to get up and still beat you down. Stuff like that. He had to put up with a lot of criticism. He was a great champion, and it was a trip for me to face him.”
