Frank Warren reveals the advice he gave Fabio Wardley to land stunning knockout

Frank Warren’s advice to Fabio Wardley during his fight with Justis Huni eventually paid off, but the Hall of Fame promoter has admitted he should not get involved in providing tactics from ringside. 

In front of a huge crowd at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road stadium, Wardley was on the verge of sending his loyal following home disappointed. 

For large periods, Huni was by far the better boxer as he used an impressive array of boxing skills to build a healthy lead over Wardley. 

In round ten, Wardley, after neglecting his right hand all night, finally landed it when it mattered most and the result was impressively definitive .

Warren, who had told Wardley to throw it more, was delighted when the fight was called off as he was at the centre of some wild celebrations at ringside. 

Despite caring for Wardley and very eager to see his heavyweight charge push on, Warren has reflected on getting involved when delivering strategy for the heavy-handed Wardley. 

“Even though I know it is not my place to do so - and I shouldn’t do it - I was imploring Fabio to bring his right hand into play,” said Warren when looking back on the fight in his latest Queensberry column . 

“He wasn’t throwing it and I could see Justis was going to be vulnerable. And so it turned out. Fabio’s big bomb will be replayed many, many times in years to come and will surely be a contender for Knockout of the Year when the awards season comes around.”
