Frank Warren threatens legal action regarding Oleksandr Usyk's WBC title

Chisora vs. Wilder: Exclusively on DAZN - April 4

Frank Warren has promised to take legal action against the WBC if Oleksandr Usyk is not ordered to defend their heavyweight title against Agit Kabayel

The unbeaten German has enjoyed several big wins in recent years, and he began 2026 in impressive style with a third-round win over Damian Knyba  in Oberhausen.

That fight took place in front of a huge German crowd which demonstrated Kabayel’s popularity and there have been hopes of luring Usyk to the country for a major football stadium showdown.

For now, Usyk is focusing on a May title defence against former kickboxer, Rico Verhoeven, which will take place in Egypt.

The WBC faced scrutiny for allowing Usyk to make that defence but after granting the Ukrainian a voluntary, will the governing body place a mandatory order on Usyk next meaning that Kabayel will finally get his shot?

If not, Warren, Kabayel’s promoter, has insisted he will do whatever it takes to make the fight and that includes taking the WBC to court.

“Kabayel's number one in the WBC, and the fight goes on in Egypt between Usyk and Rico Verhoeven, and afterwards the WBC will have to order the mandatory, and if they don't, we will sue them,” said Warren when speaking to  BoxingScene .

“I'm telling you, I'm not going to piss around with this, Agit [Kabayel] deserves his opportunity, he should be in there, and if anyone tries to duck that fight, then he'll have to vacate, it's as simple as that. Fight Agit or vacate.

“We are not going to stand for it, why would an organisation not order that fight, why wouldn't you? We just sold out the arena in a day, which we could have sold out three times over.

“It's not like he's some guy where you're not going to earn any money, that's a football stadium fight between him and Usyk. I want to see it. I’m a big fan of Usyk’s, he's a real warrior, why wouldn't he want to fight him?”
