How did Savannah Marshall fare transitioning back to boxing from MMA?

Savannah Marshall returned to boxing for the first time in two years after leaving the sport for a mixed martial arts fight.

And although the British fighter started her super middleweight title unification bout against Shadasia Green strong behind the jab, her opponent seized the momentum and did not let up. By the end of 10 thrilling rounds, judges scored it 95-94 for Green, 96-93 for Marshall, and finally 96-93 for Green, making her the unified WBO and IBF super middleweight world champion via split decision.

"This is 20 years, man," Green, overcome with emotion, told Ariel Helwani in the ring at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, and live on Netflix.

Though Marshall started off showing little to no rust behind a prodding, long jab, Green dramatically overcame that start by rattling the Brit with a raucous right hook in the fifth round.

The shot hurt Marshall and Green kept the damage coming with spirited, rejuvenated and urgent fighting that got the better of Marshall.

The fifth-round shot was just what the Paterson, New Jersey native needed to dramatically rally back, even overcoming a questionable point deduction in the fourth round for what referee Thomas Taylor deemed as excessive holding.

Marshall was not pleased with the split-decision ruling in favor of Green at all.

"Even with a point off, you've given me two rounds?" Marshall questioned after already inquiring how the verdict was fair.

That said, Marshall pulled Green in for an embrace, perhaps laying the groundwork for a rematch which would make for another exciting bout.

During the post-fight press conference, Green's night was made all the more sweeter when MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian named her as the winner of the $250,000 performance bonus for the fight of the night.
