Joe Cordina is capable of taking the WBO lightweight title from Abdullah Mason, according to Gabriel Flores Jr.

Earlier this month, former super featherweight champion Cordina became the mandatory contender for Mason’s belt by winning his eliminator with Flores Jr. via a unanimous decision.

In November, Mason confirmed himself as one of the best young fighters in the world when collecting the title with a decision victory over the previously unbeaten Sam Noakes in Riyadh.

Cordina and Mason could be set to fight next and Flores Jr. believes it is a contest that the Welshman can win.

Flores Jr told BoxingScene: “He’s won the title before. Would I give him a chance? Most definitely, yeah.

“He was my toughest test so far. He has great skill. He has some speed on him. He’s real intense.”

When asked who he thinks the world’s leading lightweight is, he responded: “Shakur [Stevenson’s] at 140, so I’d say Gervonta Davis.”
