Johnny Fisher has officially announced that he will continue his development under Tony Sims, trainer of Conor Benn, after suffering his first defeat to Dave Allen.

Fisher said in a statement: “After an amazing 5 years with Mark Tibbs, it's time for some fresh challenges in my boxing career. A new gym and a new trainer to help take me forward.

“I will always be grateful for everything I learnt from Mark. Mark and Jimmy will always hold a special place for me.

“Looking forward to training in the new gym and starting a new chapter in my young boxing career.”

Sims has an impressive stable of promising young British fighters, including George Liddard, 12-0 (7), Jimmy Sains, 10-0 (9) and Benn, 23-1 (14).

Fisher said in a recently released YouTube video that he is excited to join the team and push himself under the tutelage of a world-class coach like Sims.

Fisher said: “I’ve always had a respect for Tony and all the boys who train here. You got Jimmy [Sains] and George [Liddard], and Conor Benn. Some great names before, John Ryder is still here. To be among those names and to be involved with it, I know I'm going to get pushed very hard.”

It has been two weeks since the Essex fighter announced his split with long-time trainer Mark Tibbs.

Fisher suffered the first defeat of his career against Dave Allen in their rematch at the Copper Box Arena in May.

Allen knocked Fisher out in the fifth round to avenge his controversial loss in Saudi Arabia last year and exposed Fisher's current flaws, which was the catalyst for his move to Sims' gym.
