Former undisputed champion who took part in controversial fight returns tomorrow

Watch Usyk vs Dubois exclusively on DAZN - July 19

Josh Taylor returns to the ring tomorrow aiming to rule at welterweight just like he did at super-lightweight.

A four belt champion at 140lbs, Taylor was once one of boxing's best fighters before a win over Jack Catterall showed that there were flaws in his arsenal. Taylor may have won the fight but many believed the Chorley should have got the win that he claimed in 2024 when he finally beat Taylor in a rematch.

Taylor is back at 147lbs and he can show he still means business when he faces Ekow Essuman this weekend.

Josh Taylor

After enjoying the success which comes with being the undisputed super lightweight champion, Josh Taylor is now on a quest to become a two-weight world champion.

That starts with his welterweight debut against Ekow Essuman who he vows to "take out" in Glasgow.

“At 140lbs what else was there left for me to do? I’d completed boxing in a sense and won every single belt in boxing you can win. What else was there for me in terms of challenges, setting new targets?

"There was nothing to do. So, what there was, was moving up with an assault on becoming a two-time, two-weight world champion.

“I am planning on taking this guy out on Saturday and that is what I’m going to do.”

Ekow Essuman

Ekow Essuman will be stepping into enemy territory when he takes on Josh Taylor on Saturday night, but this is something which does not deter 'The Engine'.

Speaking at Thursday's final press conference, Essuman is ready for what is thrown at him come the opening bell.

"That is the whole point of it, we’re supposed to do that [in response to Taylor’s taking out comment]. I don’t take offence to it, it is what it is. He’s in my way, I’m in his way," Essuman said.

“Of course he believes it, he should. That is good, if he wants to try and end it early it might be to his detriment. We are going to find out on Saturday.

"I came prepared for the best Josh Taylor there can be, so this is just confirming what I thought would come."
