After two grueling fights and 20 rounds of action, do Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano still have key adjustments to make for their trilogy fight on July 11 in New York City?
Taylor, who holds a 2-0 edge over Serrano, seems to think so.
“Definitely, I think I have to make a few adjustments and she does as well,” the undisputed super lightweight world champion told DAZN News recently about herself and rival leading up to their third fight.
“I think the two fights are very, very different,” she continued. “The third fight, we’re probably going to see a different fight again.
“I certainly know I need to make improvements. I don’t think people have seen the best of me yet.”
Serrano believes the same as the seven-division world champion told members of the media last week in New York City that she’s enlisting the services of strength and conditioning expert Angel “Memo” Heredia, who has worked with David Benavidez.
Aligning their respective tactics is only right after Taylor controversially claimed a unanimous decision nod over Serrano in November, with all three judges awarding it to the Irish superstar despite the pride of Puerto Rico throwing and landing more punches.
Serrano managed to be the aggressor while fighting through a nasty gash over her right eye due to a headbutt that she felt was intentional.
Despite the controversy, Taylor had her hand raised over Serrano yet again.
That was after their initial clash had the two headlining the first-ever women’s bout at MSG in April 2022 when the Irish sensation edged the Brooklyn, New York fighter via split decision to retain her then-undisputed lightweight world championship. Taylor managed that decision despite being badly buzzed during the fifth round.
With the stakes reaching a fever pitch in this third fight, it is understandable that Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) and Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) do not want to leave any stones unturned with their preparations.
“I’ve just decided for everybody to see that I have to make the necessary improvements, the necessary adjustments for people to see the absolute best of me July 11,” said Taylor who will be 39 at the time of the fight.
In less than three months' time, boxing fans will find out whose improvements and adjustments mean more.
