Could we see Katie Taylor in back-to-back trilogy fights?
The WBC has ordered Taylor and Cameron to start talks for what would be a third fight between the two, with this battle set to determine the undisputed junior welterweight titles. Both sides have until Noon on Aug. 28 to agree to a deal or the bout will go to a purse bid on that date.
“The WBC Women’s Championship Committee hereby orders the WBC Women’s [140lbs] championship,” WBC Women’s Championship chairman Malte Muller-Michaels informed Matchroom Boxing (who represents Taylor) and Most Valuable Promotions (who represents Cameron) in an official ruling that was sent to DAZN. “We hereby kindly ask you to start free negotiations to find an agreement regarding the conditions (date, place, purses, etc.) for this important fight.”
Taylor and Cameron fought for the first time in May 2023 in the former's home country of Ireland. But it was Cameron who won the road game, winning a shocker by majority decision. Taylor flipped the script six months later to become a two-division undisputed champion.
Taylor's (25-1, 6 KOs) last two fights have come against Amanda Serrano. She won both contests by a unanimous decision, including the third fight on July 11. Since losing the Taylor rematch, Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) has won three consecutive bouts, including besting Jessica Camara in her most recent bout, which took place on the Taylor-Serrano 3 undercard to retain her interim WBC 140-pound title that has her in position to get another shot at Taylor.
