Keys to Victory: Where will Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr. land major damage?
Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr. feature on tonight’s main card headlined by Oleksandr Usyk. It’s only fitting because the winner can inch one step closer to Usyk, the unified heavyweight world champion.
Sanchez vs. Torrez is a final eliminator for the IBF heavyweight world title held by Usyk. The matchup takes place tonight at the Pyramids in Giza, Egypt, and live and exclusive on DAZN PPV.
Sanchez (25-1 with 1 no contest, 18 KOs) was knocked out in his lone pro defeat at the hands of Agit Kabayel in 2024, but rebounded by halting Ramon Olivas Echeverria via third-round TKO last February. He faces an undefeated Torrez (14-0, 12 KOs) who is now being guided by Terence Crawford trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre. Torrez upped his fight profile in 2025, pairing a points win over Italian heavyweight Guido Vianello in April with a first-round TKO of Tomas Salek in November.

Laser the right hand through
Surrendering a couple of inches in height and reach, Richard Torrez Jr. must work his way inside of Frank Sanchez’ range. While the American is brokering his way into Sanchez’ ring real estate, the latter has the opportunity to make him pay with a big right hand.
Guido Vianello had success lasering a right hand through the guard in catching an incoming Torrez Jr. and Sanchez has the hand speed and power to find a similar home with the weapon as well.
Time Torrez with counters
Another way Sanchez can assert his ring generalship and experience is by peppering Torrez with well-timed counters. In jostling his way inside and taking big swings, Torrez often overextends and leaves himself vulnerable.
In these moments, a technically sound Sanchez needs to time Torrez with sharp counterpunches that wow judges, win exchanges and rounds.
Keep the volume on high
One of Torrez’ strengths is his motor as he works tirelessly. Sanchez cannot afford to lose this fight because he didn’t let his hands go enough. Therefore, the ‘Cuban Flash’ must turn his punch volume up a notch and keep it on high to have his best shot of having his hand raised.

Watch Richard Torrez Jr. work and he does a solid job of feinting — with both hands and feet — and changing levels.
Doing both will help him to get inside of Frank Sanchez’ reach and score with high output.
Test the body
Agit Kabayel had tremendous success to Sanchez’ body and it would be a good idea for Torrez to make regular, hard deposits there as well.
Early shots to the body should provide Torrez with the necessary intel of whether Sanchez is still susceptible to the midsection. At the least, the body work will slow the ‘Cuban Flash’ down.
Launch the overhand right
Torrez effectively disguises his overhand right as a punch opponents often do not see coming.
That’s what makes it a big weapon for the 26-year-old American on the rise.
If he times the shot and catches Sanchez with it flush, Torrez could secure his biggest win yet and put boxing’s glamour division on notice.
The Canelo-Crawford rematch angle in Sanchez vs. Torrez

Sanchez is trained by Eddy Reynoso and Torrez is guided by Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre. That marks a rematch between the trainers as Reynoso is the longtime corner man for Canelo Alvarez and McIntyre for Terence Crawford.
McIntyre was able to help devise a plan for Crawford to defeat Alvarez and is capable of doing the same for Torrez in his biggest test to date with Sanchez.
I like Torrez’ intangibles in this fight, especially his footwork, to lead him to a points — and possibly a stoppage — win.
