'Near-retired!' - Former American world champion suggests professional career on standby

Keyshawn Davis has suggested that he is "near-retired" after his failed bout with Edwin De Los Santos in June, and that he is unlikely to return to the ring "for a very long time".

The American, a silver-medal winner at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, was due to make the latest challenge of his WBO lightweight title in Virginia against the Dominican.

But after he missed weight, the bout fell apart and Davis was subsequently stripped of his title, leaving him at 13-0 (1) for his professional record and at a crossroads to boot.

Now, speaking on an Instagram Live stream, the 26-year-old has suggested that he may call time on his career, and that he is unsure what his next steps in boxing will be.

"I don't know what's next for me," he said. "I don't have answers. I don’t have anything coming up. I am about to get back to living my life. Don't worry about The Businessman.

"The Businessman is done. He's retired. He's gone. You'll see me at fights and stuff though, but it's slow in the ring. At this point, I am near retired. Boxing right now, it's kind of slow.

"I don't really have to stress about not getting back in the ring. But I am near retired, I am going to keep saying that. I don't know when I am coming back.

"If you want me back in the ring, talk about it, post about it. I don't know what to tell you. But after this, you are not going to see me live for a very long time."
