Wood vs. Warrington: Subscribe to watch - TONIGHT

It is well past personal between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington, necessitating the rivals to renew their hostilities in a highly-anticipated rematch at Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England, and live on DAZN, on Saturday night.

The British rivals’ initial clash in October 2023 ended with a boom when Wood shocked Warrington with a raucous right hook, securing the seventh-round TKO seconds later.

Since that time, Warrington (32-4-1, 8 KOs) went on to drop a unanimous decision to Anthony Cacace in September 2024, before edging Asad Asif Khan on points last April. Wood (28-4, 17 KOs) lost to Cacace too, but by a ninth-round TKO suffered in May.

Will Wood prove he has Warrington all sorted out, making it a sweep of his rival? Or will ‘The Leeds Warrior’ fire back by avenging his loss with a redeeming victory? DAZN News examines the Keys to Victory for both Wood and Warrington.

Leigh Wood’s Keys to Victory

Get off to a quick start

As the older fighter, and one who could be flirting with retirement, Leigh Wood should look to make sure he gets off to a quick start.

That could mean being more active with his jab or picking his spots of when to step up into some harder punches.

Anything that gives Wood momentum early is a key.

Aim for a higher volume

Wood knows he is going to get aggression from Warrington who desperately wants to even their series.

Therefore, Wood would be aided by letting his hands go fully toward accomplishing a higher output.

Doing this successfully could prevent him from being outpointed.

Time Warrington just right for a counter

If Warrington is once again going to fight forward as expected, Wood should make it a point to time ‘The Leeds Warrior’ with a sharp counter.

After all, a wicked counter right hand swiveled Warrington’s jaw and ultimately led to victory for Wood in their first meeting.

This rematch could go the same way if Wood times Warrington aptly.

Josh Warrington’s Keys to Victory

Show educated pressure early

Josh Warrington’s aggressive, stalking style can continue in this rematch.

‘The Leeds Warrior’ must be smart about it, though, showing the ring IQ of knowing when to press forward and when to pull back against a savvy Wood.

Piece together piercing combinations

Though Warrington ultimately succumbed to a knockout, he definitely had his moments of cracking and hurting Wood with combinations.

These stinging combos must continue in the pocket in order for Warrington to score big on judges’ scorecards or stop the fight altogether with a knockout serving of his own.

Do not get overzealous

Warrington cannot afford to swing wildly and recklessly in this second clash with Wood.

Not being able to keep his emotions in check by incessantly going for a knockout could leave Warrington victim to just that himself — a situation he badly wants to avoid.

Keeping his punches compact, instead of opening up too widely, will help Warrington’s cause toward exacting cold revenge.
