Boxing's only eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, returns after nearly a four-year hiatus from the ring on Saturday as he challenges Mario Barrios for the WBC Welterweight championship from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
There are a lot of unknowns heading into this weekend's return for Pacquiao. He is sure of one thing, regardless of win, lose, or draw.
"I’m pretty sure this Saturday is going to be a lot of action, and the fans will be happy," Pacquiao said at Wednesday's press conference. "And that’s my goal, to make the fans satisfied."
Typically, when a fighter goes on a long hiatus, the conditioning and in-ring skills aren't there right away/ Even though he's been out of the ring for an extended amount of time, Pacquiao (62-8-2, 38 KOs) ensures that everything is up to snuff and will not be an issue in the slightest bit.
"The fans might be worried about my condition," Pacquiao said. "But that’s why I need to prove it (and) I’m not that type of fighter. I’m a fighter that I can work hard as I used to before when I was young until now."
Despite the overwhelming fan support for the 46-year-old, Barrios is favored to beat Pacquiao. While fans are overlooking Barrios' chances to retain the WBC belt, Pacquiao isn't.
"I know Barrios is a champion," Pacquiao said. "I respect his team. They work hard. This is for the fans."
